Men, too, are of course subjected to age discrimination, but they do not sit at the intersection of sexism and ageism that leaves professional older women without the glory or accolades — or, more importantly, real power — to show for their years of hard work. – Reuters

If you’ve spent any time on social media you’ve probably come across some of the conspiracy trolls who post hideous ageist comments and doctored photos of Hillary Clinton. These are urgently retweeted as if Dorian Gray’s painting has just been found hidden away in her attic. Donald Trump, who is actually older than Hillary Clinton, has amassed a laundry list of sexist comments of his own over the years: “And frankly, if Hillary Clinton were a man, I don’t think she’d get five percent of the vote. The only thing she’s got going is the women’s card, and the beautiful thing is, women…

Ted talk-Let’s teach for mastery, not test scores-Sal Khan

As I listened to this Ted talk by Sal Khan I was wondering if  the same logic could be used in the workplace? Even though we are not testing our employees, but we are measuring performance. We do train employees as well, but not at their pace, but based on the organization’s need. I am not a fan of the once a year employee evaluation for employees. I am in favor of good sound realistic performance measures. So with this same logic -could be crafted for the work place?  Per the website, “this talk comes from the PBS special “TED Talks: Education Revolution” which premieres Tuesday, September 13.”

What do you think? I would love to see some comments on this.

Bullying in the Workplace-Hello, its real.

As I focus on my next workshop on bullying in the workplace I hear of the recent news in Kansas. A mass shooting being contributed to workplace bullying. Here is the link to the Washington Post article. https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/national/mass-shootings-in-america/ It is a tragedy and sad that an individual gets so depressed they can’t control their surroundings and they have to grab a gun and hurt others for no reason.

I still don’t understand why there is not any enforcement or policies on the books in each state. What’s going on America, why can’t we pass the Healthy Workplace Bill. (http://healthyworkplacebill.org) to date there are 30 states that have introduced the bill but no traction. WHY? Help me understand WHY this bill has not passed?  It seems in early February Rhode Island has introduced the Healthy Workplace bill. Let’s hope for some success. http://www.workplacebullying.org/30/

So America, what are we going to do? It’s an issue that impacts employers, employees and their families. People are waiting to explode. Is there a plan?

Are you a victim, a witness or the bully? Share your thoughts and resources.

Bullying in the Workplace-Why?

How is your workplace? Is there a bullying among your coworkers? Is it your supervisor? Bullying is a problem, serious problem. The workplace is not paying attention to what is going on. Maybe the focus is too much on products and profits. Why would an organization not want their employees to feel safe and happy on their job?  When the employees are happy the production is high and absenteeism is low. The work is getting down. I presented at the recent conference on bullying in Shippensburg, PA. My topic address bullying in the workplace from a witnesses perspective. The highlights are on the webpage. http://www.workplacebullyingcoalition.org

I studied bullying for about 5 years. It is a serious topic. Some of the participants of the study felt they were working in a “toxic” environment. How do people do that? Some noted that they were on medication for depression or high blood pressure. One participant said-“I hate my job! I cry on my drive into work”. To read my study google:

Perceptions of bullying in the workplace: A phenomenological study.

There is no law in the United States to protect employees from being bullied. What can we do about it?
